A unique feature of the Honors Forum is that we allow students to create their own program of study tailored to their own specific areas of interest. Therefore, while we have rigorous requirements, each student is allowed the freedom to create their own path to completing these requirements.
5 Advanced Placement and/or Dual Enrollment courses
4 Honors courses
Advanced Placement Seminar (10th-12th Grade)*
Honors Forum Senior Project OR AP Research
Maintenance of 4.0 Weighted (SC UGP) GPA
Earning a minimum final grade of a "C" in every course
*Note: AP Seminar is not required for the Class of 2026 and 2027 only
The Senior Project is a passion-based requirement of the Honors Forum, except for students enrolled in AP Research. At its core, it is meant to be a student's opportunity to meaningfully use their learning to create, build, invent, or experience something uniquely their own.
Students will explore an area of interest that would not be typically offered as part of the standard High School curriculum that is based on the "Independent Study" courses offered at most Honors Colleges currently. The project includes 3 core components: Research, Action, and Community Impact.
1. If a student fails to maintain a 4.00 Weighted (SC UGP) GPA or earns lower than a “C” in any course during any semester, he or she will be placed on academic probation for the remainder of his or her career at BHS. A second instance of a drop in GPA, earning lower than a “C”, or any combination of the two, will result in removal from the program.
2. Starting in the 2016-2017 academic year, any student who fails, or earns an "F," for the final grade of any course will automatically be placed on probation and a 2nd such instance will result in immediate removal from the program.
Students enrolled in the Honors Forum are expected to complete at least the minimum requirements. An Honors Forum diploma will be awarded in one of three categories at the end of their senior year based on each students completion of the following criteria*:
Cum Laude: 4 Honors Courses, 5 AP/DE Courses, Senior Project, AP Seminar, 4.0 Weighted (SC UGP) GPA
Magna Cum Laude: 4 Honors Courses, 6 AP/DE Courses, Senior Project, AP Seminar, 4.5 Weighted (SC UGP) GPA
Summa Cum Laude: 4 Honors Courses, 7 AP/DE Courses, AP Seminar AND AP Research, 5.0 Weighted (SC UGP) GPA**
*Students are encouraged to pursue coursework that is reflective of their interests, yet meets the expectations of the Honors Forum.
**Starting with the Class of 2023, students wishing to earn the Summa Cum Laude distinction must complete AP Seminar and AP Research.
