Bilingual girlies with a shared mission of language equity.
Rocio Vides
My name is Rocio and I'm a sophomore at Wiess College (TFW!) majoring in Political Science with a minor in Politics, Law, and Social Thought. I'm a pre-law student from Virginia (east coast on top), and I grew up surrounded by a very diverse community where I was accustomed to hearing various languages in my day-to-day life. Being fluent in English and Spanish with intermediate level proficiency in Korean and French has allowed me to expand my purview on the importance of multilingual programming in our education system and the importance of biliteracy in not just the professional world, but in your personal affairs as well. I also participated in ASB last year (shoutout "Borderlines of Care"), and I'm thrilled to make this as amazing of an experience for the upcoming year.
Jenna Brown
My name is Jenna, and I am a Sophomore at Sid Rich College (DFA!), majoring in Spanish and Linguistics, with aspirations of attending law school. I grew up in a linguistically and culturally diverse area in St. Paul, MN, which allowed me to not only be immersed in the Spanish language at a young age, but to understand the value of being bilingual. I have since gained experience that has opened me up to the concept and importance of dual language apprehension, bilingualism, and biliteracy. I believe that being bilingual can be one of your greatest assets, yet our education system focuses mainly on promoting only one language—we must learn how and why to value being able to speak, read, write, and understand, more than one language in the United States. Rocio and I are so excited to plan and experience this trip with you!
