Abstract

The project "Engine overhaul Volkswagen MKI" consists in bringing an unsuitable conditions engine back to a useful life to carry out a good performance. First of all, we might define what a overhaul is. In general terms, an engine overhaul is based in returning back every engine element to it's original position so this way it can fulfill it's correspondent function.

Among the causes why we decided to do an overhaul are the following: low compressions, that is one of the most remarkable symptoms; once it was diagnosed we proceed to disassemble the engine, after this process, we found a certain amount of broken elements, at the moment of taking the respective measures and tests, were found distorted components such it was the case of engine block's front face, crankshaft journals, besides other elements that were oval by wear (possible cause of compression loss). This are the reasons why was made the decision of taking the parts to a grinder, which fixes the imperfections of damaged metal components. Then we proceed assembling the engine and mounting it on a metal bench.

General Objective:

Implement all de acquired theoretical knowledge during 10th grade at it is the Otto cycle, suspension system, traction system, direction system, auxiliary systems, among others, besides the engine overhaul process learned during this year which includes different tests performed to the engine block, crankshaft, and cylinder head, among other components that contribute to the engine's useful life, by grinding or changing the damaged parts, having as purpose the optimal and functional engine's state.

Specific Objectives:

• Detail the tests of which an engine overhaul consists.

• Justify the overhaul circumstances.

• Delimit a general diagnosis during the engine's disassembly before proceeding with the respective adjustment.

• Define the different engine's auxiliary systems.

• Compare the measures taken with the measures according to the maker, so that way be able to define if is needed to bore.

• Demonstrate trough comparative tables the before and then o the project.
