Abstract

Quality education enables people to develop all of their attributes and skills to achieve their potential as human beings and members of society. Quality education provides the foundation for equity in society. Quality education is one of the most basic public services.

In El Salvador, men have a literacy rate of 82.8% and women, 77.7%, however, 18% of the population cannot read or write.

Early childhood (preschool) education serves children four to six years of age. High school studies culminate with a Bachelor's degree.

Monday, January 14, 2019 The Salvadoran school system is divided between public and private. The private one has some elite schools, most of them bilingual and / or religious and the rest is a mosaic of varied options in quality. This system houses a minority of students nationwide.

Educational models in El Salvador:

• The oligarchic republic: 1900-1930.

• The Civil War (1980–1992): A Pause to the Priority of Education.
