Ms. Johnson is a native of Anderson, South Carolina. She has enjoyed over 15 years of teaching Middle School Band in both North and South Carolina. Over the course of her teaching career, her students have consistently earned Excellent and Superior ratings at a variety of adjudicated events, as well as placement in district and state level honor bands. Ms. Johnson is an active performer and clinician, most recently serving as the clinician for the Ovation Invitational Honor Band Clinic for the Independent Schools of Charlotte and the Rock Hill Middle School Honor Band Clinic.
She also served as the 2021-2022 Teacher of The Year for Marvin Ridge Middle School in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Ms. Johnson attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she received both a Bachelor’s Degree in K-12 Music Education and a Master's Degree in Music Education. She studied Clarinet with Dr. Phil Thompson and Mr. Timothy Gordon during her undergraduate degree, and both Clarinet and Wind Ensemble Conducting with Debbie Loomer and Dr. Lorrie Crochet.
Ms. Johnson continues to make performance on her primary instrument a priority in her life by performing as a member of the Carolinas Wind Orchestra and other various small ensembles in the Charlotte area. Her professional affiliations include the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the South Carolina Band Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honors Society, and Delta Omicron International Music Fraternity.
In her personal time, Ms. Johnson enjoys spending time with her family and closest friends, knitting, trying new recipes, traveling to the mountains, and reading as many books as possible. "Music Education is one of the most important, most rewarding careers on this earth. I believe that every child is deserving of an opportunity to experience, create, and perform music in some capacity."
As a professional musician, Josh Walker has worked in the Carolina region for 20 years, including as percussionist with the Charlotte, Charleston, and Union Symphonies. He has performed with Andrea Bocelli, the Moody Blues, Manhattan Transfer, The Four Tops, Natalie Cole, and many other artists. Josh frequently performs on timpani, drum set, jazz vibes, marimba, and ethnic and orchestral percussion.
As a private instructor, Josh has sent students to All-Region and All-State honor bands in South and North Carolina, Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, and colleges such as University of Cincinnati, Winthrop University, Furman University, the University of South Carolina, UNC Greensboro, and North Carolina School of the Arts.
As a composer and arranger Josh has recently recorded, produced, and released an album of his jazz-influenced arrangements of classic hymns. It is entitled Reimagined: Classic Hymns for a Modern Audience. He also writes music exclusively and non-exclusively for several music libraries.
Josh studied at Winthrop University where he earned a Bachelor of Music Performance in 1998 and a Master of Music Performance in 2001.
He and his wife, Michelle, live in Fort Mill, SC with their daughter.
