Effective Professional Learning Communities

What is a PLC?

A PLC is an ongoing process in which educators work collabortively in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve (DuFour, DuFourt, Eaker, & Many, 2010, p. 11).

Why are PLCs Important?

PLCs enhance student learning experiences by relying on educators who collaborate, use data, and share their knowledge and expertise to promote growth and achievement.

How should an effective PLC operate?

Effective PLCs focus on learning, develop a culture of collaboration, and focus on results. They are clear on their purpose and are commited to improving every student's learning (Graham & Ferriter, 2010).

Guiding Questions

  1. What do we want students to know and do?

  2. How do we know they are learning?

  3. What do we do when they're not learning?

  4. How do we respond when they've already learned the information?
