Myth #1 - “My child can’t do sports or other activities along with band.”
FACT: Many students participate in both sports and band. There are
only two evening performances in all of 6th grade.
Myth #2 - “My child doesn’t know anything about band or music, they wouldn’t be successful in band.”
FACT: We will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know—from which
instrument best fits you, how to read music, and how to sound
great while performing.
Myth #3 - “We can decide to join band later.”
FACT: If you want to be in band you must start in 6th grade. If you get
to the end of 6th grade and decide you don’t want to do it
anymore, you can leave band, but you can’t join late.
Myth #4 - “Band is too expensive.”
FACT: There is a financial commitment to getting an instrument, but
most families participate in instrument supplier’s
“rent-to-own” program that only costs about $40 a month.
There is also a small $30 fee to pay for materials each year. If
finances are an issue, we’re here to work with you!
Myth #5 - “Participation in band will distract my child from their academics.”
FACT: Students involved in music programs are likely to have higher results on
standardized tests, and colleges like to see “well-rounded” students who
are involved and committed to activities outside of academics.
What does is mean for my other elective choices if I do band?
Band is a year-long course. In addition to band, you will take, PE/Health, and two other elective classes (each for one nine-weeks). You cannot double up on music classes because they're also year-long classes.
