DCMS Honor Band
The Honor Band is an auditioned ensemble that meets during the Enrichment period each day. This group is comprised of the best 7th grade and 8th grade wind and percussion players. In the fall semester, this group focuses on preparing for All-District, Region 3, and All-State Honor Band auditions. The Honor Band participates in SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment and the SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Festival in the spring semester. In addition to all of these events, the Honor Band travels to perform at local elementary schools, music festivals, and beyond.
6th Grade Beginner Band
The 6th grade Beginner Band is comprised of students in their first year of playing an instrument. This band is divided into two classes, Woodwinds and Brass. The Beginner Band performs at the winter and end-of-year concerts. They also compete each spring at the Carowinds Festival of Music.
7th Grade Band
All 7th Graders perform with the 7th Grade Band. Work is continued on the skills begun in 6th grade and new elements of fundamental playing are introduced. Students are introduced to more challenging concert literature. The 7th grade band performs at the winter and end-of-year concerts.
8th Grade Band
All 8th grade band students are members of the 8th Grade Concert Band. Students continue to refine the fundamentals of playing and begin to focus more on ensemble skills and more challenging concert literature. This band performs at the winter and end-of-year concerts.Â
