Students are expected to arrive at Rototuna Junior High School at 0700 hours (7:00am) for this trip. The meeting point is the large stairs in Raratuna (Junior High Cafe). Students will depart RJHS at 0730 hours (7:30am) for the Poripori Waterholes.
A safety briefing will be held by the Waimarino staff before students get changed and split into groups for the River Hop.
Students should complete their River Hop around 1330 (1:30pm) hours, upon which they will have lunch and get changed back into dry clothes.
Arrival back at RJHS is estimated to be around 1530 hours (3:30pm).
This return time is estimated and is subject to change. Parents will be updated by text message to any changes. We ask that parents don't park in the bus bays for student pick up.
Students can travel to this trip in appropriate mufti clothing.
Essential gear that is needed;
Wetsuit (Waimarino can provide SOME, but it is better and more hygienic to wear your own) - compulsory
Helmet (bike helmets are fine) - compulsory
Closed toe shoes (sand shoes or running shoes, you will be swimming in these) - CANNOT be slip on shoes or canvas shoes! - compulsory
Towel + togs (to wear under wetsuit) - compulsory
Old shorts/shirt to protect wetsuit from rocks - compulsory if borrowing a wetsuit from Waimarino or RJHS
Morning tea and lunch + drink
Warm clothes to get changed into
This gear needs to fit inside ONE bag only.
This trip does have risks associated with it. If the river level is to high or the weather is inclement, the decision will be made to follow the alternative plan which is to spend the day at the Waimarino Water Park; http://www.waimarino.com/
This decision will be made by the Operations Manager of Waimarino Education Trust, who will inform the school prior to departure of whether the trip is to go ahead or we should head to the Water Park. The Water Park requires no additional gear or costs and will run on near-on the same timetable.
