Junior Year Timeline

Fall

  • Challenge yourself - be sure you are taking the most rigorous course load you can handle.

  • Begin documenting your education, extracurriculars, community service, leadership, accomplishments and work experience in Naviance

  • If you think you might be a NCAA Division I or II Athlete, see your counselor

  • Take the PSAT

  • Attend virtual college fairs and college visits - see Naviance or The Counseling Connection for more information

  • Consider taking college classes at the U of R or RIT through the RH Taste of College Program

  • Continue thinking about what your post-secondary plans might be

  • Have conversations with teachers about what courses/level you are interested in taking for senior year


Spring

  • Stay on top of your academics!

  • If interested in the military, contact the various branches

  • If interested in any of the military academies (The Naval Academy, West Point, etc.) - see your counselor to discuss application procedures

  • Register for and take the SAT, ACT, and Subject Tests (if necessary)

  • Keep an eye out for junior scholarships, visit Naviance for scholarship listings

  • Think about which teachers you might ask for a letter of recommendation

  • Begin exploring the Common Application website and familiarize yourself with the application

  • Research summer opportunities (research, volunteering, college courses, employment, etc.)
