Accessibility

The Alberto & Celia Barrera Elementary Library believes that meeting all students, staff, and parents' diverse needs is important. We encourage our community of learners to let us know how we can better meet their needs. We work hand-in-hand with teachers to ensure all our resources and facility meet student IEP requirements.

Our Library:

The library facility provides appropriate signage in large print as well as sufficient aisle floor space for wheelchair access. The level, open floor plan allows all students to browse materials and participate in library activities with ease.

Technology Access:

  • In order to adhere to ALA Recommendations, we provide our learning community with color computer monitors as well as text alternatives to speech audio versions of books. A magnify feature is available at all our desktop computers and select stations provide wireless audio connections.

Resources:

Book Share provides students with dyslexia, blindness and other reading barriers a way to customize their experience to suit their learning styles.

The Talking Book Program provides a collection of books in Braille and large print for qualifying students with disabilities.
