Careers

Eighth graders will explore the world of work, including self-exploration, job applications, interviewing and future planning.  Students will take several surveys to help them explore their interests, personality styles, values, strengths and learning styles relating to the careers that may be a good match for them. Opportunities to research career pathways and potential career options that may be a good fit for them will be provided. They will use  Xello, an online career search program with an emphasis  on exploring Career Clusters and Pathways, a way to connect potential future careers to their skills and interests. This class also includes building practical, hands on skills like interviewing, and budgeting with an opportunity to engage in an actual mock interview. Students will have the opportunity to develop an Academic and Career Plan, preparing them for a successful move into high school and towards their post-high school goals. The class finishes with an ACP Conference where students discuss their strengths, current progress, career assessments and goal setting; all a part of their successful post secondary planning.
