My Classroom Library

    • Throughout the year, we will be completing independent and small group novel studies as well as reading short stories. While it is my hope that all students can find a novel to read from my classroom or the Literacy Lounge, I encourage use of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. Please visit https://www.columbuslibrary.org for more information or to sign up for a library card.

          1. The Reynoldsburg branch is located at 1402 Brice Road, Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.

          2. The library system is also compatible with the Libby App. This app allows students to check out digital copies of a book (eBooks and audio books are available).

    • I uphold a “Read at Your Own Risk” policy regarding the books in my classroom library. I believe the books in my library are appropriate for most seventh graders; however, I have not read every novel cover to cover. Please discuss the expectations in your family for what is and is not appropriate for your student to read. I encourage you to stay involved with what your student is reading in class. You can also find information about various books at www.commonsensemedia.org.

    • Because I have purchased the majority of the books in my classroom library, it is important for the books to be treated kindly and to be returned by the end of the year. Here are a few suggestions to help you treat the book well.

    • Mark your page with a post-it note or bookmark to avoid folding pages

    • Do not place books face down with the spine bent

    • When books are not in use, they should be stored carefully in an area free of moisture and food

Grading Policy

We will be using Standards-Based (Percentage) Grading this year! Here is the scale:

A 90% - 100%
B 80% - 89%
C 70% - 79%
D 60% - 69%
Failing 59% and below

Late Work & Retakes

Opportunities to make up work do exist. All work must be submitted within SEVEN DAYS of the due date. Anything turned in after that will not be graded.

If an assignment grade is below the student’s goal, it may be redone. Students must conference with me prior to redoing a summative assignment.

If any formative work is missing, summative pieces may not be redone until the formative work is completed.
