The Youth at the Booth program enables high school students to see democracy in action by volunteering at the polls on election day. The program is intended to boost civic participation and, in turn, provide hands-on learning, foster further civic involvement, improve the elections process, and promote community by proving that young adults can contribute and make a difference. Students can earn around $100-$150 for their time. They may also receive community service hours, extra credit in school, and a boost to their college applications.
Volunteers must meet the following requirements:
High schoolers age 17-years or older
Successfully complete 3 hours of training. Classes are offered during the week, weeknights, and weekends.
Additional unpaid volunteer opportunities such as line management or proving assistance to election officials may be available. Contact your county board of elections for more information.
