Week 8
It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of our first quarter! Friday will mark the final day of the 1st Quarter, and we are proud of the learning, growth, and perseverance our students have demonstrated. As we finish the quarter, we will continue building strong academic habits and encouraging students to take greater ownership of their learning.
As we close the first quarter, I look forward to meeting with families to discuss each student's progress, strengths, and goals for continued growth. An email regarding parent conferences will be sent out soon. Conference opportunities will be available the week before Fall Break and the week after we return from Fall Break. Please watch your email for additional information and scheduling details.

This week, we will continue learning and practicing our 2B spelling list. Students will strengthen their writing by practicing complete sentences and using adjectives and adverbs to make their ideas more descriptive and precise.
In literature, we will continue reading Charlotteβs Web, focusing on Chapters 6β10. As we read, students will explore the relationships between the characters and discuss how their words, actions, and choices help us better understand friendship, loyalty, kindness, and responsibility.

We are beginning our new Measurement Unit! Students will investigate and compare different units of length, with a focus on centimeters, meters, and inches. Students will have opportunities to estimate, measure, compare, and discuss the lengths of real objects as they develop an understanding of why standard units of measurement are important.

In History, we will continue our study of the United States Constitution. Students will learn more about why the Constitution was created, the problems our Founding Fathers hoped it would address, and why establishing a framework for our new government was so important.

Our scientists will continue exploring states of matter and energy. Students will deepen their understanding of solids, liquids, and gases while learning to distinguish between matter and energy. We will continue using observations, examples, and hands-on experiences to encourage curiosity about the physical world around us.

Our new recitation is βThe Preamble.β Students will begin practicing in preparation for our assembly on October 8.
We will also begin preparing for our December recitation in October. Because the December selection is longer, beginning early will give students plenty of time to develop confidence, expression, accuracy, and strong memorization skills.
Please help your child practice recitations at home as materials are sent home.

Poetry has an important place in a classical education. Through memorization and recitation, students encounter beautiful and meaningful language while strengthening memory, vocabulary, pronunciation, expression, and confidence in public speaking. Recitation also gives children an opportunity to practice speaking with clarity and purpose before an audience. Thank you for helping your child build these skills through consistent practice at home.

Dress Code: Please help us by ensuring your child follows the school dress code each day. Shirts should be tucked in, shoes tied, and outerwear should follow school uniform guidelines. (Please also make sure students are coming to school with a jacket.)
Homework & Assignments: Students are responsible for turning in homework and class assignments on time. Please check your childβs folder each evening for important papers and homework sheets.
Penmanship & Neatness: We are emphasizing careful and neat handwriting. Students should take pride in their work by writing legibly and using proper spacing and capitalization.

Our 2nd Grade Recitation will begin at 7:45 AM.
Students should continue practicing their assigned recitation so that they can speak with confidence, expression, and proper memorization.
