The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-legislated program designed to improve student success in college. There are two components of the program.

  1. An assessment to diagnose students’ basic skills in reading, mathematics, and writing

  2. Developmental instruction to strengthen academic skills that need improvement

Our Texas Success Initiative program only serves students of ResponsiveEd schools. While the Texas Success Initiative is a statewide program, our office can only address the needs of incoming or current students at ResponsiveEd schools. For TSI questions related to another institution, please contact that institution directly.

The TSI does not affect your admission to college/university, however it is required to complete the TSI Assessment before you can enroll in Dual Credit and standard college courses.

ResponsiveEd provides students the opportunity to take the TSI Assessment, free of charge, on a ResponsiveEd campus or virtually with a ResponsiveEd virtual proctor.

Interested in taking the TSI Assessment virtually?

Step 1. Complete the Pre-Assessment Activity
This short pre-test assignment is required to complete before students can take the TSIA.

Step 2. Sign up to schedule a test day
Your Regional Counselor can schedule a remote TSI testing session via video call, or can arrange for on campus testing.

Step 3. Practice with the TSIA Study App

Preparing for test day is extremely important. It is highly recommended that students use the Accuplacer Study App (linked above) to practice. The Study App allows students to experience what the actual virtual test is like. To get started, students will need to create an account and select the TSIA2 Practice test in ELAR, Math or both. Printable versions are also available. Located below are more resources and practice tests.

Step 4. Take the test

Tests are administered on-site and remotely through Google Meet

How is my test scored?

Am I exempt from taking the TSIA?

Students are exempt from the TSIA ELAR or Math sections if they've met mastery levels on similar sections of the SAT, ACT or EOC.
