Nursery Graduation
It was a lovely turn out for Nursery Graduation, we are all so proud of the children moving to Reception in September. They have all grown and developed so much and we know that they are going to be great next year!

Number focus
We have been focusing on the number 9, counting out the correct amount and finding out if it is more or less than other numbers. We also ordered our number 0-10 and Mrs Jones made a few mistakes when counting and all of the children laughed and helped to fix it!
Push and Pull
The children have been learning about 'pushing and pulling' We sorted out and decided what actions we pull and what one we push. "We can push the pram" "We pull the door".
Music time
Nursery enjoyed making sounds for the characters in our story “The sun and the wind”

'What the ladybird heard'
Our story this week has been 'What the ladybird heard' and we have been re-telling the story as well as acting out and finding out more about the characters. It has linked well to our trip to the farm as we looked to see if the same animals from our story were on the farm.
Nursery has also enjoyed drawing the animals from our story in the creative area and making ladybirds with buttons, sticks and eye and the play dough.
Oral segmenting and blending
We have been focusing on oral segmenting and blending words, so we made some silly soup by listening to what colours Mrs Jones was sounding out and blended them together to put in the soup. We also played 'Fred says' which is like 'Simon says' only Fred speaks in sounds so the children had to listen for what action to do next.
Nursery's trip to the farm
Nursery loved our visit to Croxteth Farm, from the bus ride their singing 'Wheels on the bus' to playing in the park and then finally feeding and petting all of the animals, it was so much fun!

Environmental sounds
We have been focusing on 'environmental sounds' the children have been listening to what sounds come from our classroom and outside, we heard a lawn mower, children and birds. We also had another game of what's under the blanket? The children heard a packet of crisps, some keys, money and some water. The children also took a walk around school to listen and hear different sounds around the school.
Number 8
We have been focusing on the number 8 this week, we used blocks to count and find out if 8 is more or less than 1 and looked at bigger and smaller numbers. We also practised writing the number 8 and finding where the number 8 fits on our number line.
Magnets
The children have been testing what is magnetic, they have enjoyed using the magnets around the class and finding out what attracts them and what items do not. We learnt that metal objects stick to the magnets and there are a lot of things that do not.

Instrumental sounds
The children have enjoyed learning about different instruments and their sounds. They had a go of all of the instruments and we played a game of 'Whats under the blanket?' the children had to listen very carefully to find out what instrument was playing.
Floating and sinking
The children have been conducting experiments to see what items float and which ones sink. We have been talking about what floating and sinking means and we even had a go at making our own boats using tin foil in the hope that they would float.

Practising our sounds
The children have been learning all of our phonics pictures cards and some have learnt the sound that goes with it. This week Nursery have been practising writing the sounds in the sand, they have been using their finger to trace the sounds in the sand.
Shapes
Nursery have been exploring 2D shapes, we have been making shapes with lolly sticks and matchsticks, discussing what the shapes look like and how many sides they have. Some of the children then used the shapes to make some pictures, rockets, planets, faces and the flowers.
Alliteration
Nursery have been learning about 'Alliteration' in our speaking and listening lessons this week. We made some 'Silly soup' but we could only put in the items that started with the same sound. The children worked very hard listening for the initial sounds.
Planting Sunflowers
During this term Nursery have been learning all about growing, we have been focusing on growing plants and how to care for them. This week we began planting our own plants, sunflower seeds and have been doing all the things we need to take care of them and help them grow.

The number 7
This week in maths Nursery have been focusing on number 7. We made seven in different ways, one to one counting, clapping, finding the numicon piece and finding the number 7 on the number line. Nursery also had a really good go at playing 'quiz quiz trade', they found a partner, and told each other what number numicon they had. They then swapped and went again. The children have also been practising writing the number 7 'Across the sky and down from heaven, that's the way to make a seven!' We practised forming the number 7 on each others back and then had a go on the white boards.
Body percussion
Nursery have been experimenting with different noises they can make with their bodies, we followed and joined in with a few ‘body percussion’ songs, following the actions as they appears on the screen.

The very hungry caterpillar
Nursery have loved our story this week, 'The very hungry caterpillar', we have been sequencing the story and acting it out with puppets. We even got to taste all of the food that the hungry caterpillar ate, we like a lot of it but we decided we didn't like the pickles very much!
We have also been very busy in all of the areas making caterpillars in the play dough, continuing the caterpillars patterns and mark making.
Rhyming silly soup
Nursery made their own rhyming silly soup this week, we had to listen for words that sounded similar;
"fox, socks, box" "pig, dig" "dog, log, frog" "pen, ten, hen"

What do flowers need to grow?
Nursery have begun learning about what makes plants grow, we learnt a new song to help us remember:

We know they need lots of water and sunshine to grow. Nursery have also been looking at the different parts of the flower.
We had lots of activities around our classroom to encourage our learning on growing.
The children did some observational paintings of the sunflowers and discussed the different parts as they painted them.
Mr Tongue
Our speaking and listening lessons have been about getting our mouths to move in different ways in order for us to develop our communication and language skills. We enjoyed our story about 'Mr Tongue' and making different sounds with our mouths!
Number 6
This week Nursery have been looking at number 6. We counted to 6 in different ways today! We found 6 insects, blocks, counters, bears and then jumped, clapped, stomped and patted 6 times!
The children have also been practising the number formation and going on a number hunt around class, looking for the number 6.
Phonics time
Some children have started phonics this week, we have learnt a new sound a day and reviewing them. Fred frog has been so impressed! They have been "fan- tastic!"

We love our new outdoor space
Nursery have had a great time playing, learning and exploring our bigger outdoor space. So much room to ride bikes, build towers, create and much more.
Oral blending and segmenting
This week Nursery have been listening and segmenting different words. We sang and made silly soup,
"We're making lots of silly soup, we're making soup that's silly, we're going to put it in the fridge to make it nice and chilly"
Mrs Jones sounded out the items and the children found each of the items that needed to go into the soup.
The children had great listening ears and blended the sounds together to find out the answer.
Saying goodbye to our Chicks
Nursery loved our chicks and were sad to say goodbye but we know they are going to be happy and healthy on the farm!
Easter
We have been so busy in all of our areas, getting busy with our Easter activities. We have been strengthening our fingers with our fine motor skills, counting our chicks and so much more!
Stay and play
It was so nice to see our grown ups for Stay and play! We had so much fun finding the eggs that the Easter Bunny had left and getting busy in our areas. Nursery loved showing the grown ups what we do in our class and how we look after our areas.
Copy Cat
We have been making different sounds with our body in Speaking and listening this week. Patting different parts of our body and following a rhythm.
We love our chicks
Nursery are so excited when the chicks come to visit, we love them so much! We were so inquisitive today, wanting to find out more facts about our chicks. "What do they eat?" "Do they have arms?" "Can they swim?"
Life cycle of a chicken
Nursery have continued to learn more about our eggs and have learnt the life cycle of a chicken. Nursery have been working on their cutting skills as well as being able to remember the order of the cycle. Later in the week, we met some of our chicks for the first time and some children were even able to watch some of the process of the chick hatching!
Tongue twisters
This week in Speaking and listening, Nursery have been learning about alliteration. We thought of special alliteration names for each of us like, marvellous Mrs Jones!
Nursery also acted out and had a go at some tongue twisters, they were tricky but I think we nailed them!
Egg Watch
Nursery were very excited to visit the eggs in the Reception class room. We discussed what animals come from eggs and then looked at the life cycle of a chick. We learnt that it takes around 20 days for the eggs to hatch and that they need to stay warm until the chicks are ready to come out.
Hopefully it wont be long until we meet our chicks!
Number time
Nursery have been learning all about the number 4!
We clapped, jumped, hopped, patted and stomped to 4. Nursery also went on a number hunt around our class to find the number 4 and used different items to represent 4. Nursery then practised writing the number 4 using the number formation rhyme "down and over and down some more, that's the way to make a four!" They then continued to practice independently. We finished the week off singing some of our favourite number songs like '4 little ducks'
Farm Visit
This morning we got to visit a farm, on our very own school field! We got to learn and stroke many animals including sheep, goats, chickens, a horse, guinea pigs, rabbits and even a chinchilla! What a special experience.
This morning we have worked super hard using our fine motor skills and knowledge of Builders to add screws and bolts to the wood. We also had a special visit from @schooldogbertie, we enjoyed playing with him and taking him for a walk.
Kung Hei Fat Choi We have enjoyed learning about the Lunar New Year today. We enjoyed practising our fine motor skills by making our own noodles and had lots of fun creating our own dragons and face masks!

This week we have enjoyed learning about farmer’s ! We have had lots of questions about how farmer’s help us and what they do on a farm!
Can you guess what our story focus is this week? ‘We’re Going On a Bear Hunt!’ We have enjoyed investigating and discussing what we found in our tuff tray, & had lots of ideas of what our story could be about! We then enjoyed reading & retelling the story.
On Friday 28th January 2022, We are fundraising for our chosen charity @KINDLiverpool. We are very excited to participate in our own 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' walk! REMEMBER to wear your wellies as we will be walk through a swirling whirling snow storm, long wavy grass & more!
Today we had a visit from Merseyside Fire Service, complete with fire engine.
We learnt about the different reasons we would need to call 999 such as a car crash, a fire or an animal being stuck up a tree. We learnt the different names for the equipment such as ladder, hose, breathing apparatus, hydrant, thermal imager and the jaws of life. We then got to experience climbing onto the engine and squirting the hose!
We were full of interesting questions and great listeners to the information. What an amazing experience!
Nursery have enjoyed being back with their friends today! We have also had lots of fun getting messy and running in the snow using our senses to describe the feel and smell.

We have had a very busy morning! We have enjoyed celebrating and taking part in christingle, created our own Christmas tree and designed our own bow ties for our Christmas play.
Happy Christmas Jumper Day! We have had lots of fun wearing our Christmas jumpers and practising our bouncing techniques on the bouncy castle!
This morning Nursery had a very special snack time! We enjoyed some lovely warm hot chocolate and had a visit from Tilly the Tortoise.
Tis the Season to be jolly! We have had lots of fun this morning decorating our class Christmas tree!
We have had lots of fun today using different colours to mix together and a variety of brushes to create different marks. We also worked together to discover different ways of moving blocks in the construction area.
This morning we have enjoyed getting very messy! “It is sticky!” “I can smell flowers.” “It feels smooth!”
We have also learned all about Hanukkah and the meaning of A Hanukkah Menorah. We also learned why we light the candles during the eight-day Jewish holiday.
Nursery Rhyme Week - Today’s Nursery rhyme was ‘Down in the Jungle’. We enjoyed using our imagination to create a jungle for the animals using play dough and broccoli!
Nursery to the rescue! Pudsey the bear needed our help to save him from the ice! We used our fine motor skills and discussed which tools would be best to break the ice! We also discussed how we could dry him!
Nursery Rhyme Week - Today’s Nursery rhyme was ‘Sleeping Bunnies’. We have had lots of fun building beds for the bunnies, creating our own masks and taking turns pretending to be sleeping bunnies using different movements to wake up.
After having lots of fun creating our own spiders and spiders webs, we enjoyed following the children’s interest by going on a bug hunt in the forest. We used different equipment to help us find lots of bugs! “I found a spider!” “I can see a long worm!”
Nursery Rhyme Week Today’s Nursery rhyme is ‘Incy Windy Spider’. We have had lots of fun creating our own spiders web using different images of webs to help and created our own spiders this morning!
We have enjoyed using our knowledge of size to measure different animals in our class room. “The giraffe is taller than the sheep.” “I have more cubes than you.” We then used the cubes to measure our friends.
During maths we talked about the similarities and differences of our jugs. We found out that some jugs looked different but that they held the same amount of water. We then used our knowledge to fill and empty containers using language of size to start a discussion.

Today we enjoyed creating our own Remembrance Day pictures and used our fine motor skills to paint a poppy.
We have been learning all about Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy. We used our fine motor skills to mix and add colour to the poppy. Some of us also chose to create our own poppies in the creative area.
We had lots of fun drawing, singing and finding lots of different ways to move and climb on the climbing frame outside.
Today we have enjoyed learning all about Diwali - The festival of light! We have had lots of fun creating our own paper Diya’s.
We have had lots of fun this morning creating our own Owl masks to role play Oliver’s Wood.
Nursery have worked very hard this morning focussing on turn taking with our friends!
Today we investigated our tuff tray and discussed what our story could be about this week. Can you guess what our story could be?
This morning we went on our spooky Halloween walk and it was very spooky indeed! Then we went back to class for so more Halloween fun!
We have had lots of fun making some spooky ghosts this morning!
Let’s paint Pumpkins! We have enjoyed getting creative this morning painting our class pumpkins. We also made a spooky train track!
This morning, we enjoyed a show and tell from a lovely girl in Nursery. She has worked very hard making her own pumpkin at home and brought it in to show everyone. We enjoyed asking her lots of questions about her pumpkin. Well Done!
We have been enjoying lots of spooky activities today in Nursery! We have used our fine motor skills to catch spiders and used our counting skills to count them,and we created our own Halloween play dough.
Today we have enjoyed designing our own Pumpkin's, learning what colours we can mix together to make the colour orange and used different resources to make marks. We also worked very hard practising our pencil control.
We have had lots of fun getting messy and exploring today! We used lots of different equipment to scoop the inside of the pumpkin out, and added lots of different ingredients to make pumkin soup! We have also investigated our Autumn tray measuring all the items and discussing which is the heaviest.
Today Nursery have worked very hard during maths playing match the socks! We were able to find the correct sock to make a pair. We also had lots of fun in continuous provision matching the different socks on the washing line!
This morning we went on an Autumn walk . We found lots of different types of leaves, acorns and conckers. We also enjoy some time exploring and singing songs together
Nursery are enjoying the story Elmer this week! We have created our own patch work on Elmer himself using lots of different resources, designed our own Elmer the Elephant and created a new home in our construction area for Elmer and his friends!
