SGA-300 Course Launch

For your Summer 1 term, you will engage in SGA-300:Foundations of Effective Teaching. This course will be your introduction to all things teaching and Relay, and it consists of synchronous online sessions and asynchronous work.

When you signed your offer letter for enrollment at Relay, you received an automated email with information on how to create an Okta account. If you did not receive an email to set up an Okta account, please reach out to support@relay.edu. If you have created your Okta account, take the following steps to gain access to Canvas, Relay's learning platform:

  • Sign into your Okta account.

  • Click on the tile that says "Canvas"

Once you gain access to Canvas, please complete the following steps:

  • Access the GEN-101: Orientation and Student Resources (20-21) course on your Canvas dashboard. Use the toolbar on the left hand side to access the following pages:

    • Student-Getting Started - Review the material on this page to learn more about the layout and functions within a Canvas course.

    • Modules - Review all of the modules and readings to learn more about the Relay graduate student experience.

      • In particular, you should review the "Canvas How-Tos" module and the "Canvas Video and Guides for Students" page.

      • On this page, you should make sure to set your notification preferences so that when there are any changes in a course - announcements, grade releases, assignment comments - you receive a notification.

  • Access the SGA-300 course on your Canvas dashboard. Use the toolbar on the left hand side to access the following pages:

    • Announcements - Say hi and let us know you have accessed the SGA-300 course! This is where you will find any important announcements related to this class and the assessments. Make sure you have your Canvas notifications set to alert you when there is an announcement in any of your courses.

    • Home - Review the course overview.

    • Syllabus - Review the important meeting times and deadlines for the course.

    • Assignments - On this page, you can see the same assignments listed on the syllabus page.

    • Modules - The information in the modules is for your reference. You can review it at any point during your time at Relay.

    • Discussions - There are three optional discussion boards that you can participate in to share your ideas and get to know your Relay CO2022 colleagues and Relay faculty.

    • Course Calendar - This is in the blue tool bar on the left hand side and is represented by the symbol that looks like a tiny calendar. When you click on the tiny calendar icon, it takes you to a calendar that will show all events and deadlines related to each course you are enrolled in. You can control what courses you are viewing using the tool bar on the right hand side of this page. The calendar for SGA-300 includes the events on the Google doc calendar you have received.

  • There is no required prework to prepare for the synchronous sessions.

  • If you have any issues navigating the course in Canvas, please utilize the GEN-101 Canvas modules for help.

Please note: Completing your admissions items for Relay is an urgent priority, as you will not be officially enrolled in SGA-300 until you have completed these steps. To review your admissions checklist and complete your remaining admissions items, go to My Checklist.
