Relay is a performance-based program and progression through the first year of the Relay program will be dependent upon the successful completion of Gateway assessments. Gateways are benchmarks designed to ensure that the most valuable skills needed for a professional teacher are mastered. These are summative, high-stakes assessments that require proficiency to determine a Resident’s ability to move to the next stage of the program.
To ensure Gateway success, Residents are strongly encouraged to practice the skills on their respective Differentiated Development tool daily, attend Deliberate Practice prepared with materials and to seek and implment feedback regularly. The most effective Advisors/Mentors ensure Residents have ample time to practice the specific Gateway skills, share feedback and coach toward Gateway proficiency weekly and remediate when necessary.
Residents are evaluated by Relay faculty and their school-based Advisor/Mentor on Gateway rubrics, with Relay faculty determining the final score. If a Resident does not meet proficiency by the due dates below, they may be offered up to two additional attempts to demonstrate mastery. Failure to meet proficiency on multiple Gateway assessments may result in dismissal from the program.
