[Most often leveraged with Traditional Residents]
Residents progress through a carefully designed and structured gradual on-ramp into teaching. Proficiency and readiness to take on more teaching is dependent on Resident performance on assessments and Gateways. As the year progresses, Residents should take on more of the teaching. This responsibility begins with individual/small group interventions, grading, preparing materials, and supporting classroom management. Residents gradually shift to opening the class, leading the introduction of new material, leading the student practice, and finally, teaching the whole lesson. By late spring, Residents are ready to move into more consistent teaching responsibilities to demonstrate readiness for full-time teaching the following year.
[Most often leveraged with TEL Residents, General Teachers of Record, and Full-time Paraprofessionals]
To support various role descriptions at individual school sites, Residents receive targeted feedback and development in areas that correlate with Relay coursework and Gateway competency areas.
