 REJC Statements & Positions

Enough is ENOUGH

Flames and black smoke again lit up the Providence sky - impacting the already compromised air in our frontline communities - early Thursday morning due to a fire at  Rhode Island Recycled Metals, a scrap metal operation on Allens Avenue that the city gave a cease and desist to stop working recently and the state fined $25,000 last month. They keep operating without a license and with a history of violations, and our residents' wellbeing are continuing to be jeopardized by its existence. Is the money raised for the state's coffers worth the community's health and safety?

As a leading partner in the fight to rid Rhode Island of environmental and racial injustices, REJC stands with our community in demanding what is needed to achieve real change and progress. Solutions that will cultivate a world where everyone lives well without living better at the expense of others.

So the solution here is simple: RI Recycled Metals need to be shut down and removed.
