Creating a network of watershed educators in the

Niagara River/Lake Erie Watershed

The Niagara River/Lake Erie (NRLE) Watershed covers more than 2,000 square miles of land, 4,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 55 school districts in Western New York. For the thousands of students that call this area home, the NRLE Watershed is the best backdrop for learning.

In the NRLE Classroom, learning is hands-on, place-based, and student-centered.

"I liked to experience the fieldwork aspect of citizen science, it will really help to narrow down what I want to go into for a career."

-Orchard Park High School student, 2022

"I'm living my best biologist life!" - Lancaster High School student, 2023 "Day in the Life" event

"The networking connections that I have been able to make through this program have been so amazing...Through these network connections students have been able to be the change in the world as conservationists to our own watershed instead of just knowing about it." - NRLE Classroom Teacher, 2022

NRLE Classrooms began with support through a  NOAA Bay Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) grant from 2022-2023.
