Flemish Giants purchased from Reilly Rabbitry are available with or without their pedigree papers for pets, breeding, and show rabbits. When contacting us, please let us know your intended purpose for the rabbit you are inquiring about. It helps to determine if and when we will have what you are looking for. Since we breed all seven varieties (colors), we are selective on our breeding program, and it may take many months for us to honor your request. At other times, we may be able to honor your request immediately. In other words, we strive for quality, not quantity. We breed, raise, and sell Flemish Giants because we love the breed and want to share that love of the breed with others and we have much fun in the process.
Pedigree Flemish Giants have papers showing their three generation ancestry (parents, grandparents, and great grandparents). The rabbit's pedigree lists the variety (color) and weight of each ancestor amongst other useful details. Knowing the varieties of the rabbit's ancestors is important for breeders in breeding color correct rabbits according to ARBA standards for their breed.
Knowing ancestors' weight helps estimate the weight of their offspring. Weight is important when it comes to competitively showing and registering a rabbit. In order to be registered, a rabbit must meet or exceed the minimum weight standards for senior (8+ months old). When the rabbit becomes a senior, weight standards must also be met to be shown at ARBA shows. Due to their giant size, Flemish Giants may take longer than one year to reach their senior weight standard. Minimum senior weight for a Flemish Giant buck (male) is 13 pounds and for a doe (female) is 14 pounds. Additionally, a rabbit must have their three generation color correct pedigree in order to be registered with the ARBA. Many factors exist for them to reach their full potential in size such as their diet, and exercise, time of weaning, and for does age of breeding.
We are working hard to develop our stock according to feedback we receive while at shows. We also understand that not everyone who purchases a Flemish Giant from us is going to show them, and we are ok with that. Regardless of their purpose, we welcome feedback about how they are doing.
We are currently taking reservations for our Flemish Giants and have some available.
We have limited availability and will work towards fulfilling your request as soon as possible. Because of their health and well-being and due to their giant size, we raise them for 16 weeks before they are able to go home. At which point, we can also better guarantee their gender as they will be more developed. As we contact each person/family who has reserved a Flemish Giant from us, sometimes we do not receive replies back. In that event, we can only assume circumstances have changed somehow and they are no longer wanting a Flemish at that time. Thus, we will contact the next person on our waiting list. While on our waitlist, please feel free to check in with us on the status of your preferred rabbit.
We invite you to contact us to reserve your Flemish Giant.
