The Faculty Council judges each application on three of the Pillars of the NHS - service, leadership, and character. (Students are invited to apply based on meeting the scholarship standard of a 3.7 GPA.) See a description of the 4 Pillars here.
Applications are anonymous and are looked at holistically. They are accepted based on how well they exhibit the Pillars in regard to balance, consistency, and depth. The Faculty Council does not go into the process with a set number of applications they accept for each grade level, rather they accept those that they feel best demonstrate the Pillars. Faculty input and essays serve as further evidence of the NHS Pillars.
The Faculty Council is made up of 5 educators, most of whom have served on the Council for the last 16 years. Mrs. Pelletier and Mrs. Messina are not a part of the selection process.
