Reflection Question #1: Over the past month, what have you learned about the profession you are interning in? How has your understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities or challenges in this field evolved?

Over this past month, I have learned many new things from my supervisors. I have learned to do reports in Excel spreadsheets, work independently, collaborate with others, make new friends and coworkers, and most of all, be independent as if I were in the real world. Most importantly I am grateful that my supervisors have trusted me enough to do very important work. Other things I have learned this month are, learning to take time on work that I am assigned each day, looking through old documents, and making sure that everything is cleaned up in old folders. I have learned how to listen in meetings and take things away from them, be patient with my work, and look things over carefully.

Reflection Question #2: Reflect on the skills you have developed or improved during the past three months. What tasks or experiences helped you build these skills, and which of these skills do you now feel most confident using?

Skills I have developed in the past 3 months are, collaborating, teamwork, communication, confidence, time management, and problem solving. The task that helped me learn all of these skills was doing reports in Excel because while doing this project I have learned to do all of these so well. From having to ask questions, working with coworkers to accomplish a task, having the confidence and courage to ask questions, and solving problems on my own and with others. The skill or skills that I feel most comfortable using are, problem-solving, collaboration, and time management only because I have learned it from watching others. I have learned that it is important to ask questions and take your work seriously. Most importantly I have learned to use collaboration from my supervisors. They have shown me how to talk with others, write emails, and listen in meetings.

Reflection Question #3: How has your comfort level in this professional environment changed since you began your internship? What specific moments or accomplishments made you feel more confident in your abilities?

My comfort level has risen since starting in the HIM department because the people in the department are truly awesome. They have shown me so much from when I started to now, like working together, including me in meetings, including me at parties in the department, and most of all teaching me the ways of the work I do each day. Every day I learn something new in this department and I am honored to be able to work with all of these amazing people. Some specific moments that have made me feel more confident are all of the things I have stated above, but most importantly being involved in everything that the HIM does on a daily basis.
