96th Oregon FFA State Convention

The Oregon State FFA Convention was held at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and was on March 21-24, 2024. Lily Williams, Brylie Todd, Casch Wellman, Carson Castrow, Aristo Olympiadis, Grace Stott, Cash Kulser, Brooke Geotzinger, Ethan Costa, Gemma Delance, George Olympiadis, Hanna Perkins, Gavin Stott, Brynn Capps, Brayden Logue, Braliey Peterson, Jayce Evans, Mackenzie Bright, and Hallie Houser all attended State Convention. Brynn Capps, Carson Castrow, and Jayce Evans competed in the Agriculture Marketing CDE. Grace Stott competed in two rounds of the Job Interview LDE. Gavin Stott, Hallie Houser, George Olympiads, and Mackenzie Bright competed in the informational contest. Aristo Olympiadis and Brayden Logue competed in the Treasures Book and received Sliver. Brynn Capps and Faith Huff competed in the Secretary’s Book and received 1st in the state. Lily Williams competed in the chapter scrapbook and received Sliver. Jasmine North competed in the E-Scrapbook and received Bronze. Brooke Geotzinger competed in Animal Photography and received 1st, she also competed in Educational Poster and received 3rd. Ruby Caudell competed in Traditional Art - Drawing and received 1st, she competed in Traditional Art - Paint and received 1st, she also competed in Animal Photography and received 3rd. Jaxon Brooks, Aristo Olympiadis, Brooke Goetzinger, Brylie Todd, Garrett Hagen, Joseph Teixeira, Lily Williams, Oliver Riding, Casch Wellman, and Hailey Lakin received their State Degrees, this was a new record for Redmond FFA.

Sectionals was held on February 27th in the Mt.Hood District. Grace Stott competed in the Job Interview Career Development Event and placed 2nd, she is moving on to State. We also had Brooke Goetzinger compete in Prepared Public Speaking and she placed 4th.

On Saturday, February 24th, we had a community service opportunity at Redmond Wilco Farm Store. Jasmine North, Brynn Capps, Brailey Peterson, Hanna Perkins, Lily Williams, Carson Castrow, Grace Stott, and Brayden Logue work the booth. We sold hotdogs, chips, and water as a combo meal for $3. By the end of the day, we made $189 for Brightside Animal Center.

National FFA Week happens every year and is really big for all chapters. National FFA Week was from February 19th to February 24th. On Monday, everyone was told to wear Western Wear, and we had a community service event. When we came back to school on Tuesday, the dress up day was Gone Hunting, so most people wore camo. We had sub sandwiches and played a game of FFA Jeopardy. On Wednesday, the dress up day was Farmers Day Off, wear your pajamas. We also had donuts waiting for people in the AG room. On Thursday, the dress up day was FFA Swag or Blue and Gold day. At lunch, we had pizza and played a few games of Bingo. On Friday, the dress up day was Floral Shirts. We had ice cream in AG for people to come pick up. It was a very fun and entertaining week.

The Teixeira Bull Sale was held on February 19th, at Teixeira Cattle Co. According to Joseph Teixeira, “it went well and we averaged about the same as the year before with 20 extra bulls”. This was on the first day of National FFA Week, so people working were told to dress western. Hadley Albers, Ruby Caudell, Lily Williams, Jasmine North, Hanna Perkins, Gemma Delance, Peyton Stewart, Colt McVay, Kellan Kilgore, Brooke Goetzinger, Payje Havely, Isaiah Van Aken, Anika Albers, Hayden Andrews, Parker Larabee, and Jayce Evans all worked at the bull sale.
February 8th, 2024
Redmond FFA attended the Central Oregon District Convention, which was held at Crook County High School on February 4th-5th. We had many people compete in different events. Aristo Olympiadis and Brayden Logue competed in Treasurer’s Book and received 1st place. Brynn Capps and Faith Huff competed in Secretary's Book and received 1st place. Jasmine North competed in E-Scrapbook and received 1st place. Lily Williams competed in Physical Scrapbook and received 1st place. Redmond FFA was 1st overall in books. Everyone who competed in books is moving on to State. Brooke Goetzinger competed in Prepared Public Speaking, received 2nd place, and is moving on to Secontials. Grace Stott competed in Job Interview and received 2nd place, and is moving on to Secontials. Jaxon Brooks, Brooke Goetzinger, Garrett Hagen, Hailey Lakin, Aristo Olympiadis, Oliver Riding, Joseph Teixeira, Brylie Todd, Casch Wellman, and Lily Williams all passed their State Degree Presentations and will be receiving their State Degrees at State Convention this year. Brooke Goetzinger was elected the 2024-2025 District Vice President. Lily Williams and Jasmine North also interviewed for district officer positions, but unfortunately were not elected. Gavin Stott and George Olympiadis competed in Creed. Trason Stadler competed in Job Interview and placed 5th.

Redmond FFA “I Believe “ Benefit Dinner and Auction, was on February 3, 2024, at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds. We had a silent auction with 50 different kinds of auction items. We also had a live auction with many different auction items as well, one being a painting of Chief Jack by FFA member Ruby Caudell, her painting went for $6,000. We recognized our seniors, by auctioning off cakes that were made specifically for each senior. Our seniors were Hadley Albers, Haley Lakin, Jenna Gachaller, Garrett Hagen, Joseph Teixeira, Peyton Stewart, Grace Stott, Ruby Caudell, Brynn Capps, and Carson Castrow. We awarded our auctioneer, Mr. Stan Dupree with his Honorary Chapter Degree.

On December 13, 2023, at Redmond High School we had our Winter Banquet. We started off the night with our greenhand recipients. Those recipients are Rose Allmand-Abarca, Hayden Andrews, Graham Apker, Mackenzie Bright, Chloe Burkley, Haven Burnette, Tyler Carroll, Ethan Costa, Gemma Delance, Hallie Houser, Ryah Johns, Georgia Koch, Mia Lynch, Avery McClennen, Kirsten McGrady, Isabella Munroe, George Olympiadis, Brailey Peterson, Paityn Riboli, Natalee Prosser, Keagan Rayhorn, Macy Sampels, Riley Stenkamp, Gavin Stott, Taryn Tulich, Chloe Ward, Brandon Wood. We then recognized our chapter degree recipients. Those recipients are Anikah Albers, Rosco Auxier, Anongba Ayeliya, Ashlyn Carnes Dunn, Bella Cavallaro, Wesley Dougall, Jayce Evans, Faith Huff, Cash Kluser, Jacob Lindquist, Brayden Logue, Ashlinn O’Malley, Jasmine North, Hanna Perkins, Mackenzie Shearon, Trason Stadler, Austin Stenkamp, Caden Thrasher, Abigail Turner, and Isaiah Van Aken. We finished off by recognizing those who were awarded their chapter proficiencies. Those awarded were Jaxon Brooks, Brynn Capps, Carson Castrow, Jayce Evans, Faith Huff, Brooklynn Goetzinger, Hallie Houser, Ashlinn O’Malley, Jasmine North, Mackenzie Shearon, Grace Stott, Brylie Todd, Abbigail Turner, and Lily Williams.
December 6, 2023
The National FFA Convention was held in Indianapolis, Indiana on Nov 1-4, 2023. Seven Redmond FFA members, Jayce Evans, Brayden Logue, Isaiah Van Aken, Aristo Olympiadis, Lily Williams, Hallie Houser, Brylie Todd, and two chaperones, Ms. Puller and Mr. Ryan Evans, attended the convention. Redmond FFA flew to Cincinnati, Ohio, and then drove to Indianapolis, Indiana on Oct 31st. On Nov 1st, we headed to the Indianapolis Zoo bright and early after our tour we headed to the Indiana Convention Center for some workshops, explored the expo, and did some shopping. Once everyone was done at the convention center we headed to the Lucas Oil Stadium for the first general session of the National FFA Convention, and we ended our day with a fun game of bowling at Pinheads! On Nov 2nd, we headed to Tuttle Orchards for a fun little tour and some great apples. After the tour, we headed back to the Indiana Convention Center for more workshops and shopping, and ended the night with some ice cream! On Nov 3, we headed to Louisville, Kentucky. We first stopped at the Louisville Slugger Museum, where we met up with Mr. Hill, The Castrows, and the rest of the Hill family. At the museum many of us enjoyed watching the workers make the bats, we also enjoyed learning about the history of the museum and why they started. After the museum, we headed to Churchill Downs, where we took a tour through the museum and watched a video about the history of the Kentucky Derby and some of the famous horses that have raced. After the video, we watched some of the Breeders Cup races and went to the gift shop. On Nov 4th, we suited up in our official dress and headed to the Lucas Oil Stadium for the American Degree Ceremony where three of our members would get their American Degree, those members are Kendall Castrow, Brock Guthrie, and Preston Hill. After the ceremony, we headed to the Indy Speedway where we got to go on the track and kiss the little strip of bricks that is from the original track. After kissing the bricks we went inside and looked around their museum, we also got to race on some of their race simulators. Then on Nov 5th, we packed up all of our stuff bright and early and headed home.
