Jr. Thespians Summer Camp is a no-audition camp designed to encourage fun and exploration in the theatre arts. Students will experience all of the excitement (and hard work) that goes into theatre, from team building with castmates to learning lines, choreography, new songs, blocking, props, and more. Prefer to be out of the limelight? Join our crew/tech theatre track.
Our original musical was written by an RHS student and the music uses familiar tunes. All students who want a speaking part will get one and depending on the script, there may be an opportunity for some students to have a small solo in a song or dance. Our high school counselors work hard to find ways for each student to shine! The camp is organized, chaperoned, and sponsored by the RHS Drama Boosters, as a fundraiser to benefit the RHS Theatre Department. The camp is overseen and directed by RHS Drama Director, Ms. Sanabria. Camp will take place on the stage at RHS but is NOT otherwise affiliated with Lake Washington School District or Redmond High School. Direct questions regarding the camp to juniorthespians@redmonddrama.org.
Middle School Students
This camp is a preview of our RHS Theatre class. Students will have the opportunity to learn basic acting skills, monologues, singing, dance, and tech/crew through games, workshops, rehearsal time, and 1:1 coaching with upperclassmen. Technicians will experience sound, lights, crew, and stage management roles.
Each day of camp will feature skill development and instruction in a different aspect of drama, an opportunity for students to practice the skills they are learning through 1:1 coaching with upperclassmen, and workshops to allow them to dive deeper into the aspects of theatre that interest them.
Students will select a skill to demonstrate and perform during our showcase on the last day of camp - families and friends are invited to watch.
This class is designed for all skill levels - students new to theatre can comfortably explore and learn, while student who have acted before can use this opportunity for coaching and skill building in anticipation of fall auditions.
