We start school at 9:00 on Mondays and 8:10 Tuesday - Friday.
Dismissal is at 3:25 each day.
What time is lunch?
Our lunchtime will be from 11:55 to 12:35 PM each day
Students will go to lunch and then recess during this time.
Does 4th grade have “Snack”?
Yes. We will have a snack break once or twice a day, depending on our daily schedule.
Please send your student with a healthy snack or two each day. We do not have classroom storage for snacks.
Students have access to the classroom fridge for snacks that are better served cold.
It is recommended that students have a water bottle at school.
How are birthdays celebrated in the classroom?
All students will be celebrated at some point during the school year.
I will coordinate with families of students whose birthdays land during a school break.
Should you choose to bring a birthday treat to be shared with the class, please drop them off in the morning.
Do 4th graders have homework?
Students are responsible for taking home and completing any daily unfinished classwork for homework. These assignments need to come back to school the next day. Homework folders will be sent home Monday through Thursday as needed.
Students with missing or unfinished assignments will use their “Fun Friday” time to get caught up on their schoolwork. Once caught up, they can participate in the remaining ‘Fun Friday’ activities.
How do grades work?
4th grade uses standards-based reporting on report cards.
Students will receive a proficiency grade for both behavior/work habit categories and academic categories.
Here is a video with more explanation of standards-based grading from Mrs. Boyd.
You can view your student’s grades and check for any missing assignments through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal at any time. This is a great tool for keeping up to date on how your student is performing.
Visit Ms. Cleryssa at the office, and she will help you get started with Parent Portal on Infinite Campus if you are not already set up.
Where can I find information about what is happening in class/events?
School-wide information and reminders can be found in the weekly blog Mrs. Boyd sends out and in Friday Folders.
SeeSaw messages will be sent out from me and/or Ms Hatten with updates on classroom happenings and photos of activities and events.
Contacting Teacher
SeeSaw messages - paperwork to sign up will be sent home at the beginning of the year.
IXL: My IXL policy may be different than years past so let me explain. IXL can be a great learning tool, but it can also cause frustration with students, so here is the deal I make with kids. 90% will be considered mastery as the ‘cost’ of an incorrect answer from 90-100% can be quite a big step backward. Also, students should not spend more than 15 - 20 minutes on a lesson at a time. If you are reaching this time cap and have not reached 90% or higher please ask for help.
Help me have a more successful day with your child. If something challenging is happening with your child outside of school and they may be having a hard time or just a hard morning, email me with the subject line “Handle with Care.” You don’t have to provide any more details if you do not want to and wish to keep things private. No questions will be asked. This will just clue me in that your child needs extra care and love that day. My email is: courtney_halvorsen@redlodge.k12.mt.us
Snacks: Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to eat during the day. Students are allowed to eat a snack or two throughout the day. We do not have space to save bulk snacks in the classroom. Students are asked to bring their own snacks to school each day.
Drinks: Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to leave at school so that they have access to water throughout the day. Students are asked to only have water in the classrooms; other drinks will be saved for lunchtime.
Students will use Google Classroom throughout the week to complete class assignments. Students have access to assignments on Google Classroom at home when they sign in with their school email address. Parents, you can sign up to receive updates from Google Classroom about your child's assignments.
School-wide communications will be sent home weekly in Friday Folders. Mrs. Boyd has an online blog to keep parents up to date with the happenings at school, this is updated weekly. Please visit the homepage and follow the link to the blog.
It is also encouraged to download the school app to receive the most up-to-date information as it is published by the district. This is also where you will be able to find the lunch menu.
