Redlands Bicycle Classic
Last weekend April 12 - April 16 there was the Redlands Bicycle Classic a famous bike racing event. Professional bikers from all over America come to join the well-known race. There are several different events included in the Redlands Bicycle Classic, there are amateur races, kid races, and non-competitive races for the public. Though it’s called the Redlands Bicycle Classic that’s not all there is. There are BMX shows, live concerts, and a weekend festival with food, entertainment, and more.
Danny Van Haute, aka "Beast” a two-time Olympic gold medalist, won the professional race at the Redlands Bicycle Classic. There were several amateur races, including the elementary and middle school, and high school divisions. The elementary school division had the most people compete in their three races at 143 people. Well in the middle and high school divisions, there were 12 competitors in all three races.
Well, most people came to watch the bike races there was other entertainment as well. There was a corn hole tournament as well as live music and BMX stunts. This event has been a form of entertainment that many people look forward to each year.
RUCC hosted a community art fair, Art, For Heaven's Sake!, the weekend of October 14-16. Artists from Redlands and surrounding areas displayed their wares, while bands played from a stage and attendees enjoyed the sites and purchased . This is an annual event that RUCC holds to support artists in the Inland Empire.
The Frugal Frigate, a locally owned bookstore in Downtown Redlands, regularly hosts bookfairs and fundraisers for Redlands schools. During the week of September 19-23, Riverside based author and artist, Evan Turk, read his newest book, signed books, and drew portraits in support of Kimberly PTA. Some current and future Monarchs were in attendance to hear about Turk's process as an artist.
The veterans day parade is an annual event held on veterans day that starts at 9:00 am, it goes from Redlands High School to Jennie Davis Park. This year many groups of people took part in the parade like the Moore school band, the YMCA, multiple veterans, and many more. after the parade at 10:45 am there is a veterans celebration at Jennie Davis Park, during the celebration there are flyovers, food vendors, and live music.
