Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men
- Colossians 3:23 (ESV)
We strive for excellence in ourselves, and in others, so we help one another get better. We aren't competing with one another, we collaborate together.
We arrive on time, we start on time, we end on time. We come prepared, no matter how long we’ve been on the team, making sure we know the arrangements, the parts we're playing, the transitions to hit, and we know our role responsibilities.
We take initiative and ask questions if there's something we don't know or need help with. We're open and humble about both our strengths and our weaknesses. We practice, rehearse, and serve as unto the Lord.
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
- Proverbs 17:22 (ESV)
We take our faith and our role seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We laugh at our own mistakes, because they don’t define us. We laugh at each other’s mistakes, because they’re usually funny! We value this lightheartedness because it keeps us from over-valuing perfection, and values humility over performance.
We are committed to developing our relationships with one another because we are a family, brothers and sisters in Christ who serve together. Team events are family reunions, so we make an effort to contribute to the health of our family dynamic by prioritizing these events.
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
- Ephesians 4:1–3 (ESV)
We approach one another with love and grace; we are often oblivious to our own misdemeanours, so we assume the best of anyone we might have conflict with. We refuse to let ourselves develop a long list of the ways we've been offended or offended others. We confess when we have wronged someone, quickly and specifically, to seek forgiveness and unity. We also address when we have been wronged, quickly and specifically, seeking to forgive and be unified.
We forgive quickly, indiscriminately, and continually - because forgiveness, and the unity that follows, requires regular maintenance.
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
- Hebrews 13:17 (ESV)
We recognize that with each increasing level of leadership, the burden of that role also increases. We want to be people who make it easy to lead by being easily led, at every level of participation. That means doing what you can to help us all pull together to accomplish the mission of serving our church and region with the gospel, to see lives changed by the power of Jesus.
We also support our leaders by bringing ideas. We bring our ideas to our leaders with an open hand and a heart to help; that means we’re not precious or defensive with our ideas. It also means our desire is for the collective good of our church family, not selfishly motivated in any way. A heart to help also means you're willing to help execute the idea if necessary. Both of these things are a product of humility and are propelled by love.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
- 2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV)
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
- Matthew 5:14–16 (ESV)
We understand that we are stewards: we have been entrusted with the task at hand and equipped for it. We understand that this is a privilege; we are not entitled to anything, so we maintain an attitude of gratitude.
We understand that we are also shepherds; we must lead well and we must love well. We are visible, and are serving as an example in many ways, simply because we are visible leaders. Expressiveness in worship, countenance, even how we dress all indicate what our church will believe to be 'acceptable'.
Furthermore, our lives off stage must be consistent with what happens on stage. We understand that we must be intentional and wise about what we post on social media; your social media platforms must be consistent with your serving platform.
We are servants, just as Christ is. Jesus came not to be served but to serve - this is our calling as well. Consider others more highly than yourself, and serve out of love for the church and your Saviour!
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
- Philippians 2:1–4 (ESV)
