When can I enroll in Benefits?
A salaried employee can enroll in benefits immediately upon hire with Recipe. An Hourly employee (except FRESH) must complete (3) months of continuous employment with Recipe. Once they complete (3) months, they must work (50+) hours for (4) consecutive pay periods and continue to maintain the hours. FRESH hourly employees must complete (1) month of continuous employment with Recipe. Once they completed (1) month, they must work (46+) hours for (2) consecutive pay periods and continue to maintain the hours.
What do I need to do to enroll for benefits?
When you have met the benefits eligibility requirements please advise your manager of your interest to enroll into the benefits program. Likewise, you can also send an email to Benefits@recipeunlimited.com with your completed benefits enrollment form.
How long do I have to enroll in my benefits?
You have 31 days from the date of your eligibility to enroll in your benefits.
What if I am late in my enrollment and it is beyond the 31 days?
If you are late in enrolling for your benefits, the benefit carrier will consider you a late applicant. You will be required to complete a Health Statement, and you will be subject to Medical evidence of insurability. At that point the benefit carrier will make the decision on whether or not you can be enrolled for benefits.
What is medical evidence of Insurability?
The benefit carrier will review your completed Health Statement. If there are underlying medical issues or pre-existing conditions, the benefit carrier can refuse coverage.
Who can I enroll or add to my benefits?
You can add the following dependents to your benefit plan: A spouse, Common-Law (provided that you have been living together for at least (12 months), child, adopted child.
What is a Life Event?
A “Life Event” is considered the following: a marriage, birth of a child, separation/divorce, changes to your spouse’s coverage.
Can I change my benefit plan?
Yes, You can change your benefit plan during the open enrollment period, or during a life event
When should I advise Total Rewards of any changes to my status (Life Event)?
A life event must be recorded/added within 31 days of any changes to an employee’s status
How long are dependent children covered under the Benefits Plan?
Children are covered up until age 21. Once they reach 21, they are automatically removed from the plan from the benefit carrier. Their benefits end at the end of the day of their 21st birthday. However, they can be covered up until age 25, provided that they are in full time attendance in either a College or University. Proof of enrollment must be provided to the carrier.
What is COB (Coordination of Benefits)?
Coordination of benefits is when a Recipe teammate and their spouse both have benefits through their respective employers.
How does COB (Coordination of Benefits work)?
Coordination of benefits works as following:
A Teammate must submit their claim through Recipe’s plan first. If Recipe’s group plan does not cover the entire amount, the remaining balance can be submitted under the spouse’s plan.
For a Teammates spouse: The spouse must submit any claims through their group plan first. If there is a remaining balance, they may submit under Recipe’s plan.
For Dependent Children: claims for dependent children must be submitted under the Group plan of the parent whose birth date comes first in the year.
How long do I have to submit my claims?
You have (1) year from the date of the service to submit your claims (with the exception of HSA claims). For any claims to be allocated to the HSA, you have 60 days following the end of the year December 31st.
Do my benefits end?
Medical & Dental benefits end at the earliest of the following: When you leave recipe, upon retirement, or age 70.
Health & Wellness Spending Accounts (HSA / WSA)
What is an HSA (Health Spending Account)?
HSA (Health Spending Account) - is an amount of money ($500) that Recipe provides to an employee to supplement their Medical & Dental benefits.
What is a WSA (Wellness Spending Account)?
WSA (Wellness Spending Account) - is an amount of money ($500) that Recipe provides to an employee and can be used towards the purchase of fitness related items.
Who is eligible for an HSA - WSA
Salaried employees are eligible for an HSA or WSA.
If I am a new hire do I receive the full $500?
The HSSA - WSA amount is pro-rated for new hires depending on their effective hire date.
How do I use an HSA (Health Spending Account)?
An HSSA amount can be used towards any medical or dental expenses (balances) that are not covered under the regular Group Plan policy. For example: If you need prescription eye glasses and the full amount is not covered under the core plan, you can use the money in your HSSA to cover the balance. This applies to all health expense or dental expense claims.
How do I use an WSA (Wellness Spending Account)?
An WSA can be used towards the purchase of fitness equipment for your home, gym membership, training sessions, yoga, purchase of vitamins. This is a taxable benefit.
How long do I have to use my HSA - WSA?
You must use your HSA before the end of the year (December 31st).
What happens if I don’t use the HSA - WSA, or have a remaining balance at the end of the year?
You will be permitted to carry over (1 year’s) balance. However, you must use the ‘carry-over’ balance before the end of the next year, or you will forfeit the carry-over balance.

What is TELUS HEALTH EAP?
TELUS Health EAP is a full-service employee assistance program (EAP) and work-life/wellbeing resource that provides confidential consultations, information and resources, connections to community agencies and supports, and referrals to counselling.
Why would I contact TELUS HEALTH EAP?
TELUS Health can provide support and resources to help you find answers to questions related to work, life, health, family, or money. You can contact TELUS Health for support with any issue, challenge, or concern. Consultants are available 24/7.
Who pays for TELUS HEALTH EAP?
TELUS Health is available at no additional cost to you, as defined by your benefits plan. Recipe provides this program as a benefit to support your wellbeing.
Is it confidential?
Yes. TELUS HEALTH take the utmost care to protect the identity of anyone who uses TELUS Health. The only exceptions to confidentiality include those governed by law, i.e., are required to release documents under court subpoena, and they have a duty to intervene and report if a consultant or counsellor deems an individual to be at imminent risk of harm to self or others.

RETIREMENT
What is an RRSP Retirement Program?
An RRSP Retirement program offers you the opportunity to make contributions towards a Retirement Savings Plan. Contributions are remitted to Sunlife Financial for investments.
How much can I contribute towards the RRSP Program?
Recipe offers you a flexible contribution plan where you can contribute 1%, 2%, or 3% of your basic Earnings. Recipe will match your contributions 100%.
Can I make changes to my contribution percentage or investments?
Yes, you can make changes to your investments & percentage of contributions at any time.
How do I make changes to my investments & contributions?
Manulife Financial will send you login credentials to manage your account. You will make your changes directly online via the Manulife VIP Plan member site. All changes will be submitted to Recipe. The Payroll team will then make the appropriate changes to your deductions.
Can I make additional contributions over and above the 3% Maximum?
Yes. You can make additional contributions by way of 'Voluntary Contributions'. This is an additional 'flat dollar' amount that you can make via payroll deductions. The Voluntary Contributions are not matched. Please note, if combined with Recipe's retirement savings plan, you have outside investments, please be mindful of the yearly YMPE.
What is the YMPE (Yearly Maximum Pensionable Earnings?
The maximum pensionable earnings is an amount set by the Federal Government each year. The amount changes yearly. This is a maximum salary amount on which a teammate can contribute to the Canada Pension Plan.
If I leave Recipe, what happens to my contributions?
If you leave Recipe prior to (2) years of completed service, you will retain your contributions, however, you will forfeit the Recipe matched portion. However, if you leave Recipe after completing (2) years of service, you will keep both your contributions and the Recipe matched contributions. Manulife will move your Funds to a 'Personal Plan'. Manulife will send you an 'Options' package. You will have the option to keep your investments with Manulife, transfer them to a retirement vehicle of your choice such as a personal RRSP, LIRA etc. If you are employed with a new employer that offers a similar plan to Recipe, you may also transfer the funds to the new carrier (upon completing your probation period).
Is it important for me to elect a Beneficiary?
Yes. A beneficiary is the person, or entity that you elect to receive the death benefit.
Does the Beneficiary have to be your spouse?
No. You can name your spouse, children, dependents, another family member, a friend or a charity as a beneficiary. For beneficiaries listed that are under the age of 18, a Trustee must be appointed.
What is a Trustee?
A Trustee is a person, or a firm that will hold the money, assets, or property for any individual that is under 18. A Trustee will manage the assets in the best interest of the Beneficiary until they reach the age of majority.
What happens if I don't elect a Beneficiary?
The death benefit will automatically go the your Estate. The Estate will distribute funds to Creditors if there is money owing to various institutions or if there are debts owing. Also, the funds will be subject to Probate Fees. If any money is remaining, the remaining funds will be payable to applicable dependents, such as spouse or children etc.
