What is Writer's Workshop?
Writers' Workshop is a special time where we write everyday. The workshop starts with a mini lesson where we learn about things famous authors do to make their stories better. Then off we go to write our own stories. During this time the teacher conferences with the students to work on their individual needs as writers. The teacher will also meet with small groups to help students grow as writers and work on meeting their unique writing goals. We end workshop by sharing our writing with our partners and class. At the end of each writing unit we have a special celebration where we share our own "published" pieces.
What will we learn during Writer's Workshop?
While writing personal narratives in class, we will learn that a small moment is a story that takes place at one time, one place. We will work on adding emotion to our stories, bringing our characters to life with dialogue, making wow endings and beginnings and working on the mechanics to make our stories easier for the reader to read.
Writing Units: Personal Narrative, Informational, Chapter Books, Opinion and Realistic Fiction.
