What is this group?

Description

The overall goal of our group is to provide the members with a place to learn about and grow as vocalists and choral performers of small group styles. Multiple part singing and solo singing will be included in all of our music and rehearsals. We will study and perform many different styles of small group vocal music. Including, but not limited to: classical, madrigals, spirituals, jazz, blues, gospel, rock/pop, contemporary acapella, and music theatre. Students selected for this group should come with an open mind ready to experience a wide musical pallet.

Ensemble Requirements

Auditions for Vocal Company will be in the first weeks of the school year and are open to student who are currently enrolled in the Concert Choir and have at least one year of experience in the RSHS choir. Auditions will consist of learning to sing your voice part of a four part choral piece and performing that alone and with others of a different voice part. Musical selections vary and are at the discretion of the director.

Rehearsals are Mondays after school at RHS until 5:30 pm. You must let the director know ahead of time if you are going to miss a rehearsal. You may NOT miss more than three (3) rehearsals for any reason and still perform with us at the concert! Same rules from dress rehearsal apply from concert choir. You must be present at the dress rehearsal to perform at the concert.

Concert Performances

The Vocal Company is often asked to perform at many locations throughout our city and county. In addition to our regularly scheduled Holiday Concert and POPS concert at RHS we will have other “gigs” during the school year. The director will post these dates as far in advanced as possible and will give at least two weeks notice when a performance is to occur outside the school day. Attendance at all performances is mandatory for all members of the group.

Special Projects

Starting in 2013 the Vocal Company put on a fully produced musical revue in the fall. This was an exciting adventure and we continued this for a few years. As our school musical theatre program grew so did the opportunities of the Vocal Company. We still hope to do a special musical performance during the fall/winter if there is enough student interest.
