RHS Teacher - Vocal Music and Musical Theatre
Courses: Concert Choir; Voice Class for Musical Theatre; Songwriting; Piano
Mr Smith is an active musician, songwriter, and educator. Since the fall of 2006, he has taught music at Reading High School. He serves as the school's choir director and, beginning in 2018, the director of the spring musical theatre production. It’s always a challenge bringing people with different backgrounds and experiences together, especially in a public school with limited supplies and finances, but Mr Smith continues to find a way to do that with music. His vocal ensembles consistently focus on performing a variety of music in widely different styles and genres at a high level of musicianship.
Before coming to Reading, Mr Smith received a B.S. in music education from Penn State University and studied songwriting and piano at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He also often works in musical theatre, having music directed over two dozen productions, and is currently a teaching artist at the Steel River Playhouse in Pottstown, PA. Mr Smith regularly writes, records, and performs with singer/songwriter Eve Fleishman. In 2011, they embarked on a national tour, performing in nearly 20 states.
Sharing music with others plays a significant role in Mr. Smith's life.
