Tom J. Hughes has always enjoyed new challenges, so when presented with the opportunity to help build this project from scratch, he immediately jumped on board. As the lead teacher, he has taken on many behind-the-scenes tasks, from meetings with administration and fellow staff members, learning how to juggle multiple projects at once, and working one-on-one with students to guide them toward success. His number one goal is to see this project thrive. Working with students individually allows him to be direct with them, to see firsthand where their individual skills lie in order to help them build from those innate talents. Helping students improve their natural skills is an important aspect of this project, and it not only benefits them as individuals, but the project as a whole. Seeing this project go from being simply informative to being both inspirational and entertaining is an important goal for him, and he knows that can't be done without the hard work of not only himself, but the students as well.
Kyle Brown has always had a passion for creating and editing videos. His job allows him to fulfill that passion, so being a part of this project allows him to do what he loves. He likes to work with students who have the same passion as he does. He helps out in this class by being available whenever the students need him. He teaches them about editing and how the editing software works, and he lets them explore their creativity. He uses his leadership skills by offering his knowledge to the students when they need it, but he doesn't have to help a lot because the students are very intuitive. Kyle hopes to see this class improve and enjoys getting information out there for the community to watch and enjoy. His favorite thing about this class is witnessing the students' sense of accomplishment after their hard work. He knows that consistency in production will come with time and has confidence that once the foundation is laid, things will start to flow more smoothly with the class.Â
Lisa Comly has always had a helping hand, and she is very happy to participate in projects with students. When initiating this project with Tom Hughes and Kyle Brown, she agreed to join because she thought it'd be "important to spotlight the incredible alumni of the district and shine a positive light on the students." She was aware of how much brainstorming, conversations, and meetings it would have to take to build this class from the ground up, but with the vision of the Reading Education Foundation, she knew it would put everything in motion. Lisa easily makes connections throughout the community, which is a big help for the students in contacting alumni for their projects and interviews. Her favorite part of this class is watching the students grow in their skills and abilities with interviewing, web design, videography, and editing. She hopes for the students to become more confident in their abilities and skills as they grow this project and make it flourish.
