Grade 9 Technical Courses
Digital Piano I
(1-semester)
This class is for the beginning piano student. Taking place in our music lab, each student will have access to their own digital piano keyboard. The class will focus on two primary areas, learning to play the piano and learning the technical side and features of operating a digital piano keyboard. On the piano playing side of things, you will learn to play melodies, chords, scales, and basic songs so that you are comfortable with your hands performing on the keys in various capacities and contexts. You will learn the basics of reading traditional sheet music, lead sheets, and chord charts. On the digital instrument side of things, you will learn the basics of operating your digital piano keyboard. Prerequisites: Two or more high school art classes, including Digital Photography. This is a demanding intro college-level course for experienced, highly-motivated, and dedicated photography students looking to develop a 2-D portfolio and earn college credit. Using an inquiry-based approach, you will create a two-part portfolio consisting of (1) selected works and (2) a sustained investigation. The selected works are five digital images that demonstrate skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas with written responses clearly related to the images. The sustained investigation is comprised of 15 images united by a single guiding inquiry that demonstrates practice, experimentation, and revision. The portfolios are evaluated on written inquiries that guide the sustained investigation (20%) and written and visual evidence of practice, experimentation, and revision (30%). Selected works are evaluated on the synthesis of materials, process, and ideas (30%) that exhibit skillful execution of the medium (20%). Open to juniors and seniors. Students taking this course are expected to complete the AP Portfolio at the conclusion of the course in May. AP Photography
