Reading Memorial High School has five Innovation Career Pathways (ICP) in various high demand employment sectors in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The RMHS ICPs include:
Advanced Manufacturing (Engineering)
Information (Computer Science)
Information (Digitial Media)
Clean Energy
Healthcare and Social Assistance (Public Health)
With the assistance of the Reading Chamber of Commerce and MassHire Metro North Workforce Board, RMHS established partnerships with local industries to support the pathways. Current industry partners include Weston & Sampson, TEALS – Microsoft, Associated Builders and Contractors, All That Music Academy the Reading Coalition for Prevention and Support.
RMHS has built community-based partnerships with companies that commit to hosting our robust internship program or assist in advising during the capstone project. RMHS works with partners in higher education to establish dual enrollment courses that are part of the ICPs, the primary higher education partner is the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (UML). These institutions and industries serve as advisors that work in concert with RMHS faculty in developing courses and curriculum in each ICP.
ICP students benefit from experiencing fieldtrips and speaker series in their fields of interest as well as additional support from the School Counseling Department around work-based learning skills and plans.
Students in ICPs also have Dual Enrollment courses and Advancement Placement exam fees paid for through grants that support ICP, paying for Dual Enrollment courses or Advanced Placement exams for students in an ICP pathway is contingent upon annual grant funding. ICP students also have priority choice for elective courses that are part of their pathway in addition to priority for competitive internships.
Some Dual Enrollment course names are subject to change based upon the courses that our partner institution, University of Massachusetts Lowell, offers each semester.

We’re proud to share that the Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded $387,000 in ICP Planning Grants to 26 school districts across Massachusetts, and Reading Memorial High School (RMHS) was proudly among the recipients—recognized for the first time!
What This Means for RMHS & Our Students:
Strengthened Industry Partnerships: This funding supports building and enhancing connections with businesses and workforce boards to bring real-world learning into RMHS classrooms.
Expanded Pathway Programming: The grant enables RMHS to deepen its Clean Energy pathway—launched in 2023 under the “Reimagining High School” initiative—and bolster opportunities in clean energy, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, information technology, and life sciences.
Enhanced Student Experiences: Students can now look forward to more internships, dual-enrollment options, hands-on learning, and curriculum co-developed with partners like UMass Lowell.
Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll and Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler visited RMHS to spotlight four ICP programs—like Environmental Issues, AP Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Ethics, and Climate, Crisis, and Society—all supported through our partnership with UMass Lowell.
This grant marks an exciting step in our mission to connect students with high-demand, career-focused learning that prepares them for success—while we've already built a strong foundation, this support propels us even further forward.
