A strong data-driven culture ensures that decisions related to learning, teaching, and assessment are informed by evidence, leading to improved outcomes for all learners. In Renfrewshire, we are committed to embedding data literacy across all levels of our education system empowering staff to make decisions that enhance learner progress and achievement.
Data helps staff identify gaps in knowledge and skills, allowing them to tailor teaching approaches and resources to meet individual needs. Regular analysis of attainment data enables early identification of learners who may require additional support or challenge. Staff can use data when planning learning to adapt instructional strategies, ensuring all learners are progressing. Data enables more targeted and meaningful feedback, guiding learners toward their next steps effectively. Data helps staff improve equity and inclusion, ensuring that all learners, regardless of additional support needs, have access to high-quality learning experiences.
To sustain a data-driven approach, staff should regularly engage in data-informed discussions to reflect on progress and inform next steps. They should use data triangulation combining assessment results, observational data, and learner feedback to gain an holistic understanding of each learner. Staff should ensure that data is not just collected but actively used to shape learning experiences.
By embedding a robust data-driven culture, Renfrewshire establishments can ensure that all learners are supported in achieving their full potential, with interventions tailored to their individual needs.
We have a range of tracking tools within establishments to track pupil progress. This includes, in the early years, the Renfrewshire’s Progression Tool which is used to identify key milestones that demonstrate progress for those children who are in their pre-school year and are working towards early level. In primaries, a whole school tracker records each pupil’s learning journey through ACEL and in secondaries, individual subject departments will liaise with the Attainment Team and Pupil Support Departments to ensure pupils are fully supported across their range of subject areas during their journey through their secondary education.
