Children’s Services Vision: “Working together to get it right for children, families and communities—protecting, learning, achieving and nurturing.”
Overall, across Renfrewshire’s 11 secondaries (6 with Flexible Learning provision), 50 primaries (23 with early learning classes and 6 with Flexible Learning provision), 2 ASN schools and 15 Early Learning and Childcare Centres, the quality of learning and teaching is good – individual establishment self-evaluation, our Quality Improvement Framework and Education Scotland inspection reports support this current position. The Renfrewshire Way is our approach to get this to very good or better across all sectors to have the biggest impact on our children and young people.
Underpinning daily practice in our classes and playrooms are a number of universal approaches including:
Staff are implementing nurturing approaches to develop positive relationships with children and young people. Renfrewshire’s Nurturing Relationships Approach (RNRA) provides an implementation process for establishments to develop nurturing relationships across the setting and their communities
Staff are inclusive in their practice, meeting the needs of all children and young people using a range of universal and targeted approaches. Renfrewshire’s Staged Intervention Framework makes clear that an inclusive approach to education supports an ethos of achievement and high expectation, recognises and respects diversity and sees differences between learners as opportunities for learning through a staged intervention approach. Resources available to support staff include the CIRCLE Framework – secondary, primary, early years, Renfrewshire’s Inclusive Communication Environment (RICE) and the Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) resource. To support staff to respond positively to the diverse range of cultures, religions, identities and languages, ensuring they are recognised and valued, resources available at https://www.antiracisted.scot/ are recommended
Staff ensure our care experienced children and young people feel loved, safe and respected by keeping The Promise
Staff respect and protect Children’s Rights (UNCRC) as enshrined in Law - The United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child (incorporation) (Scotland) Act July 2024
