‘Providing a learning environment where; visibility of skills, meaningful discussion and reflection on skills, and the opportunity to profile skills experiences, will support young people with their ability to understand, recognise and articulate their skills development. Adopting this as a natural part of everyday learning and teaching will empower young people to be - successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors – ultimately allowing them to reach their fullest potential throughout their learner journey and beyond’.
Skills Development Scotland
From early years through to senior phase and beyond, the discussion, reflection on and development of a variety of skills for learning, life and work is crucial and is the responsibility of all staff working with our learners. The messages contained within Curriculum for Excellence; Building the Curriculum 4 remain as relevant now as they were when written in 2009. We must equip Renfrewshire’s children and young people for the rapidly changing world in which we live. To do this, there is a wealth of support and information on the skills required for learning life and work, and how to include this across learning and in different contexts:
skills in literacy, numeracy
skills for health and wellbeing, including personal learning planning, career management skills, working with others, leadership and physical co-ordination and movement skills
skills for enterprise and employability
thinking skills – also known as meta-skills.
