The RMHS Environmental Club provides service to the community through efforts to make RMHS more sustainable and competes in the Massachusetts Envirothon competition each May. Members may choose to participate in either or both aspects of the club.
The biggest service project performed by the Environmental Club is green recycling at RMHS. Club members bring green recycling totes to classrooms during Flex Block or after school on Thursdays to collect recycling. The club also maintain the traffic island at the bottom of Oakland Road, and do other one-time projects. Examples of past projects include labeling the paper towel dispensers, planting a tree, cleaning up litter, and labeling storm drains.
To prepare for the Envirothon, students go to a training workshop in the fall or spring, prepare to compete in Ecostations about Water, Wildlife, Forestry, and Soil, and prepare a Current Issue Presentation to present to a panel of judges on a different topic each year. This year’s topic is Partnering with Nature in Watersheds. The competition is held at a different State Park each year. This year's Envirothon will be on Friday, May 18th at the Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park in Uxbridge, MA.

The Robockets, promotes a fun and interactive, out of the classroom, educational experience for Reading students that supports the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) initiatives within our schools. We challenge students to collaborate as peers with adult mentors who are subject matter experts in the business and technical disciplines required to make a successful team/business. The Robockets students foster innovation to challenge themselves with hands on learning to design, fund, and build a robot. The team relies on cooperation, compromise, sportsmanship and strategy to overcome challenges. Through this, we take pride in our accomplishments and gain life skills. One of our greatest achievements is meeting new people and building relationships and alliances, thus creating an expansive community. This process enables students to contribute to the community and develop excitement for STEM careers.
The Robockets compete in the New England District of the First Robotics Competition. The build session runs from the 1st week of January to the 3rd week of February and during this period the team constructs a robot to compete at events. Each year, the Robockets compete in two District Events, one of which is held at the RMHS Field House. In past year's, the team has consistently qualified for the New England Championship and several times qualified for the World Championships.
