Tips for Homework
In Math class this year, during most weeks students will get homework 4 times a week. The homework will typically be reinforcing skills that we worked on in the previous week. We have many tools to help students complete their homework so they can get the practice they need to succeed on the test. One of these tools is google classroom. This website can be logged in from home and has a list of the assignments by date along with video tutorials of how to complete the math. The students will then be given weekly quizzes with questions taken right off of the homework assignments! If you want to follow your students progress on google classroom you can provide his or her teacher with your email address and you can receive summaries right to your inbox.
Classdojo is a great tool that not only allows you to stay involved with your students behavior and activities in class, but it also allows you to communicate with the teacher as easily as a text message. You can download an app onto your phone or visit the website on your computer and it will open up an opportunity for you to get pictures and videos of what your student is doing throughout the day. It will also allow you to see if your teacher is rewarding good behavior in the classroom or reminding them to follow the class expectations in real time. Check out classdojo or provide a phone number/email address to your students homeroom teacher to follow your class!
No Homework for the night? No problem! One metric that our district uses to assess student growth and allow them to practice skills is I-ready. I-ready is a program that tailor fits a program to your students needs based on their individual needs. Research shows that In order to show growth in mathematics in the 6th grade we should be practicing on this program a minimum of 100 minutes per week! We give the students time to practice in school but the more they practice at home the better it will be for them. If they dont have math homework one night, have your student work on I-ready for 20 minutes. Click on the icon to the left to visit the site.
