What We Do

What’s the role of SLC members?

• To represent his/her school at SLC meetings and report back to his/her respective school.
• To keep his/her school informed about relevant citywide, school, and community issues and concerns.
• To advise the School Based Planning Teams and the Board of Education as part of decision-making processes.

To work on other policies and projects that SLC develops during the year.

What do SLC members do?

• Attend/host weekly meetings at their school in cooperation with the school’s student government body.
• Represent their school at monthly SLC meetings and at district and community events.
• Receive valuable training and experience including public speaking, leadership, political know-how, event planning, and community organizing skills
• Work on important issues such as:
  • School Equity
  • Racial Equity
  • Civic Responsibility
  • Student Rights and Responsibilities
  • School Discipline and Climate
  • Transportation Equity
  • Student-to-teacher Relationships and Feedback
  • Student Government Policy
  • RCSD Budget
