Musical Theater Literature will meet every day throughout the school year. There are two sections of MT Lit: Period 1, and Period 5.

In this course we will cover the history and progression of Musical Theater as an art form. This class will meet every day for a single period throughout the year. In this class, students will:

  • Watch musicals, listen to musical soundtracks, and read excerpts from librettos

  • Learn the social context behind the evolution of Musical Theater

  • Be able to discuss how music and dance are used for storytelling

  • Explore the social and emotional impact of musicals

  • Understand how Musical Theater can be used socially for self-expression and communication, community building, and social commentary.

This is a project based class, which will combine both individual and group work. Throughout the year, students will be expected to cooperate with their peers in discussion and creation of work. Students are expected to be respectful listeners and collaborators.
