Athletic Eligibility

Standards and Procedures for Athletic Participation (Academic Probation)

A student failing one or more classes will be placed on Academic Probation. It will be necessary for the student to attend tutoring with the teacher.

  1. Students must be academically eligible to participate in a sport. Students must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average. A student athlete who has a combination of less than 2.0 grade point average and/or has failed two or more subjects is automatically ineligible for participation in a practice session or a contest for the period of time set forth by the Principal or his designee.

  2. Prior to each sport’s season, students must have submitted a properly signed parent/legal guardian permission consent form to the school nurse.

  3. Each participant must pass a yearly physical examination, proof of which must be submitted to the school nurse before beginning the first practice session.

  4. Prior to each sport season, a participant must see the school nurse regarding requalification of his physical eligibility.

  5. Athletes sustain injuries or significant illness must be cleared with the school nurse before returning to participation.

  6. Students must arrive by 10:21a.m. (3rd period) in order to participate that day in a team/individual practices, games or other extracurricular activities. A student must present a parent note and verification from a doctor’s or dentist’s office if he arrives late due to a scheduled appointment.

  7. Student athletes are expected to take physical education classes. Failure to attend will result in not participating in practice or a game that day.

  8. If an athlete or the athlete’s parent wishes to discuss anything relating to participation of a school team, the procedure is to talk to the Coach first, then to the Athletic Director. If needed, the Principals may be contacted next.
