Class overview
To prepare for the challenges of the high school curriculum, middle school students work with major works of fiction and nonfiction throughout the school year to understand author's perspective and purpose. They work on making claims and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. They will work on making inferences and analyzing texts they read and begin crafting essays with original ideas.
Each student was assigned a section on the schedules that they received during orientation. Your class time is assigned based on that section. Use the link in Google Classroom for your virtual class time.
We meet every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at these times.
8-1 (Honors): Period 1 (9:25-10:05)
7-1 (Honors): Period 8 (2:40- 3:20)
Our class may look different this year, but to find success and make the most of our time, there will be expectations of all students:
Be on time every day.
Complete work in a timely manner.
Communicate when there is something you need.
Try your best!
Parents will play a huge roll in a student's success this year! Please utilize the website often so you know what your child should be working on. Whenever you have questions or concerns, you can email me at Kathleen.sanchez@rcsdk12.org and you will hear back from me within the day.
The remainder of the year will be virtual or hybrid depending on the model you chose for your family. If you chose Remote Learning for your student, please know they are expected to log into Google Classroom every day except Wednesday to be part of our lesson and work collaboratively or individually to complete class assignments. They will see the Zoom link for the day in the Banner in Google Classroom. Please see the invite code and I look forward to seeing your child online!
About me
I have been teaching English Language Arts for 13 years. I have been in the RCSD since 2009 and at John Williams Elementary since it became a middle school in 2011. I majored in English and teaching SWD at Nazareth College and received my Masters in Education at SUNY Brockport.
As well as teaching, I am a wife and mother to 3 boys of my own. They are 9, 7 and 1 years old. I am excited for this new challenge in front of us this year.
