In this unit your child will explore how authors create and contrast the point of view of different characters. Through this fictional novel we will analyze how setting creates character. We will work on finding main idea and citing evidence to support claims when writing. Our major focus of this novel will be on the theme of perseverance and what message this story conveys to us about never giving up.
In this unit students will think about their own story and the narrative their story tells. Using this historical fiction novel we will think about how imagined experiences can help to tell a difficult story. We will continue to work on making claims and citing evidence along with thinking about how the setting of a story helps to create perspective for characters and our own selves.
This important unit will teach students not just how to write their own persuasive writing pieces, but also how to analyze and judge other texts for validity and reasoning. Students will work on tracing an author's argument and evaluating the evidence provided.
