Technology education means a program of instruction designed to assist all students in meeting State intermediate standards for technology. Technology education uses concepts of science, mathematics, social science, and language arts in a hands-on, systems-based approach to problem solving that guides students in the understanding, design and development of systems, devices and products to serve human needs and wants.
Students will apply technological knowledge and skills to design, construct, use, and evaluate products and systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.
Engineering Design: Engineering design is an iterative process involving modeling and optimization used to develop technological solutions to problems within given constraints.
Tools, Resources, and Technological Processes: Technological tools, materials, and other resources should be selected on the basis of safety, cost, availability, appropriateness, and environmental impact; technological processes change energy, information, and material resources into more useful forms.
Computer Technology: Computers, as tools for design, modeling, information processing, communication, and system control, have greatly increased human productivity and knowledge.
Technological Systems: Technological systems are designed to achieve specific results and produce outputs, such as products, structures, services, energy, or other systems.
History and Evolution of Technology: Technology has been the driving force in the evolution of society from an agricultural to an industrial to an information base.
6 Impacts of Technology: Technology can have positive and negative impacts on individuals, society, and the environment and humans have the capability and responsibility to constrain or promote technological development
Management of Technology : Project management is essential to ensuring that technological endeavors are profitable and that products and systems are of high quality and built safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Discovering Your Passion Unit Plan
Topic: Discovering Personal Passions
Length: 7 Days
Standards Covered:
NYS Career Development Standard 1: Career Development
NYS Career Development Standard 2: Integrated Learning
NYS Career Development Standard 3a: Universal Foundation Skills
NYS Career Development Standard 4: Career Plans
This unit guides students through self-reflection and exploration to help them discover and develop their passions. Over seven days, students will reflect on childhood interests, try new activities, and engage in self-discovery exercises that connect their values, strengths, and curiosities to potential career paths. The students will use the SWOT Analysis Worksheet to identify their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). This can be a valuable tool for self-assessment and personal development.
