Bilingual students at East High School enter and graduate with intact cultural identities and their cultural pride and appreciation for their lived experiences is unmistakable. They are fully proficient in both Spanish and English, and recognize their bilingualism as an asset. They are flexible and resilient when faced with academic and personal challenges due in part to the ganas they have cultivated during their time at East High, and they are not swayed or discouraged by the low expectations or the stereotyping of those who underestimate, disregard, or dismiss them.
Bilingual students at East High have experienced high quality, meaningful learning experiences in and outside of school. They have developed positive relationships, and have received social-emotional support when it was needed. The bilingual teachers at East High have been, and have exposed students to, positive role models with whom they can identify and receive support towards achieving their future goals.
