Sort & Count
Find different colored leaves. Sort them by color & count how many are in each group.
Nature 10s Frame
Bring laminated 10s frames outdoors or make your own with sticks. Find two different items and practice making word sentences. Four acorns + Six rocks = 10!
Number Writing in Nature
Have laminated sheets of large numbers to trace with nature or free hand make numbers with nature. Can we make all numbers 0-10? Older students can create multiplication and division problems with nature.
Number Nature Walk
Use paper or cardboard and hole punch to fit a flower or leaf. Show what each number looks like by placing them through the hole.
Geometry Sticks
How many shapes can you make and name using sticks?
Symmetry in Nature
How many objects in nature can you find that have symmetry? Use your hand to cover half of an object to see if both sides are equal.
Nature Fractions
Find some sticks to make fractions. Use leaves to cover parts of the fraction and discuss ways to reduce the fraction. 2/8 can also look like 1/4.
Insect Hunt
Look in a garden, under a log, or on a tree to count how many insects you can find. If you find a ladybug, count how many spots you see.
